DailyPhotos > graffs  > Portfolio > My Book of Days Photo Journal Project
I am passionate about photography (just ask my two boys who, at 4 and 2 are SICK of me taking their picture! ) I want to learn learn learn as well as take the time to document our lives together as a family. My philosophy is that: life is happening NOW--there are no dress rehearsals. I want to get more involved in the photo/SmugMug community so I thought this may be a good place to get my shy self "out there"--by starting a 365 book of days project.
Here goes--my official "Photo Journal". In it I will publish self portraits -in hopes of learning to be more comfortable with the camera myself (see my Blog for more info on that) as well as pictures that I hope for feedback on to improve or learn from and ones that I want to remember or that have impacted me.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE: that I do this project for myself and my family--so some days there will be more than one photo if I feel so inclined. I don't want this project to become cumbersome...but I want to use it to document a year in our lives as well as to learn as much as I can from taking various pictures. I value and appreciate any feedback from all of you and am thrilled to be part of this amazing community!

graffs > my boys running to me!
graffs > white chocolate passion fondue anyone?
for those of you in colorado-the local melting pot's (Louisville and Littleton) are having some amazing specials for valentine's day! what a great way to spend some time together with someone special!
graffs > i loved what john posted in his daily about stepping out of the box of what we normally shoot and submit for dailies. i bet most would be able to pick my shots of just from the thumbnails too. not this one eh?!

a client asked me to take some product shots--not something i've really done but we decided to rig up our own light tent tonight and i took some test shots. very fun. this is my very first shot (no doubt you can tell!). i know i have some tweeking to do but it was so fun to step out of my comfort zone. thanks john for reminding us to do that more often. because of your post i didn't get afraid to accept my client's project--i embraced it. (and thanks cindy for trusting and challenging me!)
and although this will take me some time to perfect-i feel so good to have faced the challenge head on. isn't that what life's all about?

the shots i will be taking tomorrow of the restaurant's valentine's day dessert special will be used on a menu! so fun!
graffs > now i own three cameras and some days it seems like work to take a picture. i am becoming lazy. plus-today is full of speech therapists, occupational therapists and school for the boys.

here's one from this weekend's sledding adventure.
graffs > fatherhood has many perks-carrying your 36 pound son up a sledding hill on the sled is NOT one of them!

mike carried casey (all 36 pounds of him) up this sledding hill about 10 times yesterday and never complained.

days like these are just so precious. i am always glad i carry my camera.

thanks for being a great and selfless daddy mike.
graffs > another one from last night using a lone exposure. this is straight out the camera with no editing at all.
(john-i think i am addicted to night photography.) next time though i want to spend five hours in downtown denver when it is not too cold and snowy! brrrrrrr!
graffs > i had the most AMAZING night photography walk downtown tonight. not only did i learn a lot-but i had an absolute blast.
i know this photo has been done very well already by (sbarge) already but i just had to post my version too. so- here's denver's city and county building lit up for the holidays.

i've always been intimitaded by night photography and usually resort to switching to aperature priority to compensate for my insecurities with setting the shutter speeds for long exposures. this one was taken in total manual using my cable release. (thanks efrain for helping me out so much tonight!) http://illuminateworkshops.com/
please check out his offerings and take a class or two--illuminate photography is just wonderful!
check out efrain's group shot in the link below (he used an extra strobe) very cool!

graffs > anyone recognize these two? i had the honor of enjoying lunch with these two amazing santa barbara photographers: http://chrishumphreys.typepad.com/chris_humphreys/
not only are they talented but they are sweet, kind and very fun! i was (and am) so excited to have gotten to spend some time with them.
i met them at a davidjay.com seminar which was amazing and katie was kind enough to stay in touch and offer advice and guidance regarding the starting of my business.
i left pf chang's today with a huge smile on my face! thanks guys! (sorry the pic is overexposed--there was way too muc light coming in the window for the iso i selected!)
